What we do?
- Reducing time-to-market: It is estimated that the activities of the JU will help to reduce time to market for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies by between 2 and 5 years and will therefore have a faster impact on improving energy efficiency, security of supply and reducing greenhouse gases and pollution.
- Commercial lift-off:The FCH JU is to deliver robust hydrogen supply and fuel cell technologies developed to the point of commercial lift-off. For the automotive sector, the aim is to achieve breakthroughs in bottleneck technologies and to enable industry to take the large-scale commercialisation decisions necessary to achieve mass market growth in the time-frame 2015-2020. For stationary fuel cell systems (domestic and commercial) and portable applications, the JU will provide the technology base to initiate market growth from 2010-2015.
The FCH JU supports

following open and competitive calls for project proposals.
The first call for proposals was organised in 2008 and new calls will be organised annually until 2013. Ongoing projects will be brought to conclusion by 2017.
The research agenda outlining the activities that will be supported by the FCH JU is set out in the Multi-Annual Implementation Plan (MAIP ) of the FCH JU. The MAIP will be translated into annual research priorities each year in an Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) containing the specific topics for the call for proposals.
The FCH JU Multi-Annual Implementation Plan is divided into four main application areas (bottom row) with cross-cutting issues such as socio-economic studies (too highest rows) as the fifth. The agenda comprises the entire cycle of research, technological development and demonstration including support actions.
